Sunset Maternity Session at Ironwoods Beach | Maui Babymoon Photographer

Ironwoods Beach is one of my favorite locations on Maui for sunset photography — especially for couples who want their photos to feel romantic, and a little wild. This maternity session with Richelle and Kevin, who were visiting Maui from Australia on their babymoon, was the perfect example of why I love this spot so much. They wanted photos that felt candid, emotional, and effortless — not overly posed — and Ironwoods gave us the perfect setting to tell their story.

We planned their session around sunset at Ironwoods Beach, allowing enough time to move slowly, explore the cliffs, and capture moments as they naturally unfolded.

Ironwoods Beach, located on Maui’s North Shore near Kapalua, offers a unique mix of dramatic scenery. What makes this beach so special:

- dramatic lava cliffs with beautiful ocean views;

- sandy beach below for barefoot walking, running, and sitting poses etc.;

- fewer crowds compared to South Maui beaches;

- soft sunset light, especially on clear or lightly overcast evenings.

We began the session at the cliffs where the wind, textures, and scale of the landscape added a cinematic feeling to the photos. After that, we moved down to the beach. I love allowing space for movement here — walking, pausing, holding each other. I gently guided Richelle and Kevin with simple prompts, letting them interact naturally — walking together, holding hands, laughing, and taking quiet moments to pause and breathe. This is how I approach maternity photography on Maui: creating a calm, stress-free environment where couples can simply be present with each other.

Richelle chose to wear a simple bikini and a shirt cover-up, and Kevin wore shorts and lightweight linen pants — relaxed, beach-appropriate outfits that felt natural for a babymoon photos in Hawaii. This kind of styling works beautifully at Ironwoods because - simple outfits keep the focus on connection and emotion. For maternity sessions, I always encourage clients to wear what feels comfortable and authentic to them — confidence and ease always translate into better photos.

The result was a gallery full of romantic, emotional images that feel timeless and deeply personal.
