Plein Air Painting: Filming an Artist at Ho‘okipa Beach | Maui Videographer
Olesya in the process of creating “The Ocean’s Breath”
A few weeks ago, I had the chance to work on a very special creative project at Ho‘okipa Beach Park on Maui’s North Shore. I filmed my friend and local artist Olesya Orlova as she created a new painting inspired by the ocean, wind, and raw energy of this place. The painting is called The Ocean’s Breath, and the entire process unfolded right by the water.
Creating Art in Nature: Ho‘okipa as the Studio
Ho‘okipa is a very powerful and visually rich location on Maui, especially on a day of big swell. Known worldwide for surfing, wind, and dramatic coastlines, it’s also an incredible place for creative work.
For this video, Ho‘okipa became Olesya’s open-air studio. I filmed the process as naturally as possible, letting the environment guide the pacing and mood.
As a Maui videographer, I’m always drawn to projects that feel grounded in place. This one was deeply connected to the North Shore — raw, unscripted, and alive.
Here is the video of the process!
This type of video is something I love creating for artists and small brands — cinematic but quiet, intentional, and emotional.
Photography from the Project
Alongside filming, I also captured still photographs of the process. These behind-the-scenes images show the details: hands covered in paint, the location, the contrast between soft brushstrokes and powerful waves.
These photos are perfect for:
artist websites
social media
press or exhibition materials
Blending photo + video storytelling allows creative projects to live in multiple places online while staying visually cohesive.

Promo videos for artists and creatives
Brand storytelling rooted in nature
Cinematic, non-cheesy visuals
Projects filmed outdoors across Maui
Whether you’re a painter, surfer, yoga teacher, or small brand, a short, intentional video can help people feel your work — not just see it.
If you’re looking for a Maui videographer to create a promo video that feels authentic, emotional, and connected to the island, I’d love to collaborate!
