Surprise, surprise..!

There’s something magical about capturing a surprise proposal - the raw emotions, the joy, and the moment when a love story transitions into the next chapter. Nick and Claudia’s proposal at Ironwoods Beach was no exception!

Ironwoods Beach is one of my favorite spots to capture proposals. It’s usually not very crowded at sunset, which is perfect for a private experience. I always scout the beach as I get there, and choose the least crowded spot - usually somewhere in the middle of the beach. For Nick and Claudia’s proposal, I pretended to be just hanging out, keeping my camera hidden in a beach basket. This way, Claudia had no idea what was about to happen!

I always like to watch and capture the reaction - after Nick dropped to his knee, Claudia’s face lit up with joy!

Because Claudia and Nick wanted their photos to feel candid and dynamic, I focused on capturing the excitement as they began this new chapter together. After the proposal, we moved closer to the cliffs for a quick engagement photo session. The dramatic cliffs of Ironwoods Beach is such a perfect place for photos - it offers both privacy and breathtaking scenery.

The wind that day gave the photos an extra touch of liveliness. While windy conditions can sometimes be tricky, they ended up adding a sense of movement and energy that perfectly matched this couple’s passionate connection.

After our photo session, Nick and Claudia went to celebrate their engagement at Merriman’s, one of Maui’s best fine-dinning restaurants. It was the perfect way to end such a beautiful day, with stunning views, delicious food, and plenty of time to soak in the joy of their newly engaged status.
