Can I Visit Maui Now? Yes!

Just stay away from Lahaina.

If you're considering a trip to Maui and wondering about the current situation, I would like to share my opinion. The recent wildfires on the island have raised concerns among tourists traveling to Maui. However, it's crucial to recognize that while the fires have impacted some areas, the majority of Maui remains a 100% safe and open for visitors.

The fires have mostly affected the west side of Maui, particularly the town of Lahaina as well as some parts of Kula and Olinda Road. This tragedy has brought a lot of sadness and grief among the local community. Many people have lost their homes, jobs, businesses, and even their loved ones who couldn't evacuate in time. We are all shocked and still processing, and the process of healing and recovery will take time.

The good news is that many parts of Maui are fully open and ready to welcome tourists. The South side, Hana side, Northshore, and the most of Upcountry areas are unaffected by the wildfires. These regions continue to offer the breathtaking landscapes, cultural experiences, and outdoor adventures. Enjoy the road to Hana with its lush rainforests and waterfalls, watch sunrise or sunset at Haleakala National Park, have a relaxing day at the beach in Kihei or Wailea or visit charming Paia town on the north shore… Maui has so much to offer!

Maui's economy heavily depends on tourism, which plays a significant role in the livelihoods of many residents. The majority of my friends work in tourism industry, and even those who aren't directly connected rely on clients and customers who are part of the tourism sector. This creates a cycle where the lack of clients with financial stability impacts everyone's ability to sustain their services. While we grieve for the losses suffered by our community, we understand the importance of continuing to support our local economy. Unfortunately, without a steady income, our ability to support the community will be failed in the near future.

So, is Maui open for travel?

Yes, absolutely. Just don’t go to Lahaina - Lahaina is closed. The spirit of aloha is alive and well in Maui. The island's beauty, culture, and hospitality remain untouched by the recent events. By choosing to visit Maui, you're not only experiencing the beauty of the island but also contributing to the recovery of our community and we greatly appreciate your support!
